0.40mm Positive PS Plate for Commercial Publishing and Printing

In the modern commercial publishing and printing industry, the choice of printing plates directly determines the quality, production efficiency, and cost control of printed products. Thanks to their excellent imaging accuracy, stable printing performance, and outstanding durability, PS plates have gradually become the preferred material for printing books, magazines, newspapers, and high-end commercial publications.

What is a PS Plate?

A PS plate (Pre-sensitized Plate) is a pre-coated photosensitive plate usually composed of an aluminum substrate and a photosensitive coating. The aluminum base commonly adopts 1050, 1060, or 1070 alloys, which feature low density, high strength, excellent formability, good hydrophilicity, high stability, and excellent surface treatment properties.

Positive-Working Principle

During platemaking, positive film or data is used for exposure. The photosensitive layer in the exposed areas (corresponding to the non-imaged areas of the original) dissolves in the developer, revealing the hydrophilic aluminum base. The photosensitive layer in the unexposed areas (corresponding to the imaged areas of the original) undergoes a cross-linking reaction, remaining as the oleophilic imaged areas.

Unlike negative-working PS plates, where image areas are retained after development, the positive PS plate removes image areas during development. This makes positive plates especially suitable for commercial publishing that demands high precision in text and image reproduction, offering sharper detail, cleaner lines, and higher registration accuracy.

Key Features and Advantages of Positive-Working PS Plates

High Resolution: Capable of accurately reproducing extremely fine halftone dots and tiny text, with a typical dot reproduction range of 1%–99% and screen ruling up to 200 lpi or above, meeting high-definition printing requirements.

Long Run Length: After baking treatment, the plate’s durability can reach hundreds of thousands to over a million impressions, making it ideal for large-scale commercial printing.

Wide Operating Latitude: Tolerant to variations in exposure and development conditions, easy to control, with a high yield rate.

Stable Performance: Currently one of the most mature and stable lithographic plate technologies available.

PS Plate Thickness Options

Common PS plate thicknesses include 0.15 mm, 0.20 mm, and 0.30 mm.
The 0.40 mm thickness belongs to the heavy-duty type, specifically designed for high-durability and long-run printing, widely used in commercial publishing and packaging printing where frequent and long production runs are required.

Why Choose a 0.40mm Aluminum-Based PS Plate?

  • Stability: The extra thickness provides excellent mechanical strength and dimensional stability, preventing deformation on high-speed presses and ensuring precise registration.

  • Printability: Fits the plate cylinder of the press perfectly, making plate mounting and handling more convenient.

  • Durability: Superior resistance to stretching and wear, with much higher run length capacity, ideal for long-run jobs requiring hundreds of thousands or even millions of impressions.

Applications in Commercial Publishing and Printing

  • Commercial Printing: Magazines, brochures, product catalogs, color advertisements, business reports, high-end packaging, and other printed products requiring excellent color reproduction and quality.

  • Publishing Printing: Books, journals, magazines, and newspapers (typically using thinner plates such as 0.15mm or 0.20mm).

The 0.40mm positive-working PS plate is an excellent choice for these applications, perfectly meeting demands for high resolution, accurate halftone reproduction, rich color performance, and long-run printing reliability.
